"The Promised Land" - In Defense of Israel

Writer's picture: The Issue PackThe Issue Pack

Many of the truths relied upon by religious individuals across the globe can be traced back to Israel. Both Judaism and Christianity hold Israel to be a sacred place. The promised land given to the Israelites by God himself. The place where Jesus Christ was born, executed, and rose from the dead. The place where miracles were done in front of thousands who saw them. The history of this place could not be any more iconic.

Today, Israel is the most persecuted nation in the world. Obviously, Israel has had a long period of conflict with Palestine over territory and historical ties to Jerusalem as each of their capitals. Egypt has always had their spats with Israel, most recently in the Six-Day War. Most recently, Iran has taken shots at Israel and has blamed them for the murder of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Even the United Nations has taken aim at Israel. Since its creation, the United States has used its veto power 89 times to strike down resolutions to condemn Israel.

The Israeli government has always been a close ally of the United States, but recent pro-Palestine protests on college campuses worldwide have put the future of that alliance in jeopardy. After the October 7th attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas, Israel has had enough. The world is suddenly exploding into chaos.

As a world leader, the United States needs to be involved in this dispute in order to establish peace and security over the long run; however, it is prudent that we side with Israel. Today, we outline a few main reasons why that is the only option we have.

#1 - Israel is Sacred to the United States

Most Americans are seriously protective of Israel. According to the most recent Gallup poll, 68% of Americans are Christian and 2% of Americans are Jewish. That's 70% of Americans that hold Israel as a sacred nation. Thus, protecting Israel has always been a major part of American politics.

Protection of Judaism and punishment for anti-semitism or anti-semitic comments has become the norm in the United States. In fact, there are still celebrities who practice Judaism in the United States. Natalie Portman has dual citizenship between the United States and Israel and Adam Sandler inserts Judaism into his own movies.

Anti-semitics have been observed all throughout the United States. A couple of NBA players have been criticized for making these type of comments. Kyrie Irving tweeted out a link to an extremely anti-semitic video in October of 2022. He was quickly suspended by the Brooklyn Nets organization and NIKE cut ties with him. Meyers Leonard was suspended and fined $50,000 for using an anti-semitic slur during a live-stream in March of 2021. Within the month, the Miami Heat traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder who waived him immediately. Kanye West famously was banned from Twitter for going on an abusive anti-semitic rant in October of 2022. Kanye said "when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE" and he was instantly removed from the platform for violating Twitter's policies.

The world is taking its jabs at Israel, and a majority of the world knows it. Much of the world isn't trying to hide the fact that Israel is not an ally of theirs and the United States is starting to become an accomplice to the notion. Yet, most of our country actually sympathizes with Israel and that's why we cannot ever just leave them to rot. Of course, Israel has shown that it can handle itself better than the United States can, but the idea that we would just abandon someone who has shone trust and that the majority of our country trusts seems like a bad idea.

#2 - We CANNOT Support Terrorism

The alternative to supporting Israel...is supporting global terrorism. Israel's main adversaries are include major terrorist organizations, such as Hamas, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Hezbollah, the Taliban, and others. The United States has consistently stood against the efforts of terrorism, yet somehow we still negotiate with countries that support terrorism. We all remember, or we are told by those who do remember, that fateful Tuesday morning when four hijacked commercial airlines caused the deaths of nearly 3,000 people. It was the biggest terrorist attack the world has ever seen.

We cannot let this happen again. We owe it to the American people, our friends, our husbands, our wives, our mothers, our fathers, our sons, our daughters, our brothers, and our sisters; we owe it to the families of the victims, the survivors, the first responders, and the military personnel; we owe it to the taxpayers, the employees, and the unemployed; we owe it to the Europeans, the Africans, the South Americans, the Asians, the Australians, the Antarctic, and the North Americans; and we owe it to the next generation of this great American story; we owe it to everyone to fight terrorism across the globe.

This is why an alliance with Israel is so important. It's a signal to the rest of the world that, not only are we going to protect Israel, but we are also going to stand against global terrorism. The more we stand around and let terrorists just have their way with Israel, have their way with the Middle East, and sometimes have their way with us, the United States will look weak and less like a global leader. Terrorists will wreak havoc on the rest of the world and millions of people will die.

We can't let that happen. We owe it to the rest of the world, to our allies, to the innocent, to the rich, to the poor, and to the Americans that our government is responsible to; we owe it to all of them to protect Israel and fight off the terrorism. Our alliance is critical to fulfilling that pact.

#3 - Israel is a Strategic Military Ally

Israel has some of the most sophisticated defense systems in the world, and much of it is provided by the United States. In spite of that, the collegiate population of the United States seems to have turned against them. People don't seem to understand, we trust these people to the point that WE'VE GIVEN THEM THE GOODS!!! We care about their well-being to the point that we've given them the smoking gun. That's like the Germans in World War II giving the smoking gun to Stalin and the Soviet Union and then immediately turning on Russia.

Don't get me wrong, we didn't enter into an alliance with Israel simply because we gave them advanced military equipment, but the fact that they have all of our advanced technology is a significant reason not to back away from them. On top of that, Israel has never once attacked the United States with the advanced equipment that we've given them. We can trust the partnership that we've built with them, which is much more than what we can say about our partnerships with many other nations.

Strategic military allies are important because we also learn and draw ideas from those countries. There is a lot to learn from Israel's top rated defense system, so it makes more sense to avoid another 9/11 by learning from Israel and the Six Day War. If we can build a defense unit similar to that of Israel, we will be untouchable and Americans will be safe, period.

Overall, keeping our allegiance with the sacred nation of Israel is extremely important to promoting United States' interests. This antisemitism floating around needs to stop. If you want to destroy the America that we know and love today, we need to support our allies and back them up in times of need. The time to back up Israel is right now. I stand with Israel.
